In principle, any condom could be vegan - because it is made of natural rubber latex, a plant-based material derived from the latex milk of the rubber tree. The days of using animal intestines as a cover to provide contraception are pretty much over. In order to turn raw latex milk into a condom, various manufacturing steps have to be gone through. And this is where vegan condoms differ from non-vegan condoms, because one of the additives used by most producers as an aid to processing the raw material is casein. In the finished condom there is nothing more of this casein in it - but nevertheless such condoms can no longer be called vegan.
