Oryx antelopes have horns 120-150 centimetres long. This is where they get their name, because oryx is Greek and means something like pointed tool. When in doubt, lions, leopards and hyenas experience that the antelope knows how to defend itself very well. In their habitat in the desert, it can get well over 40 degrees Celsius. But the oryx antelope knows a trick against the heat. It increases its own body temperature until it is higher than the temperature of the surrounding area. This allows it to give off its heat and absorb cooler air.
