The Greek ruler Polycrates looks down proudly and happily on his city of Samos. A friend, the king Amasis of Egypt, is visiting and can't get out of his amazement: everything that could be a threat to Polycrates finally dissolves into bliss. Amasis fears that this sheer
unbelievable luck of his friend could arouse the envy of the gods! So he advises him to make a sacrifice to the gods. Polycrates throws his most valuable signet ring into the sea. Will this appease the gods?
