Happiness in a roundabout way
Eleven-year-old Maybelle Lane collects sounds: the squeak of her trailer door, her mother's guitar playing, the click of ice cubes.... But the most precious piece of her collection is her father's warm laugh on an old answering machine message. This laugh is the only thing she has of him. But one day she hears exactly this laugh on the radio: Her father has his own music show. And when he announces a song contest there, in which he is part of the jury, Maybelle signs up immediately. But the competition is a long way off - and she needs the help of some people who Maybelle would never have guessed could become friends ...
