Description

What is folic acid and where can I find it?
Folic acid is a vitamin that our body cannot produce itself. Therefore, it must be ingested in sufficient quantities through food. Especially during pregnancy it plays an important role in the development of the unborn child. Sources of folic acid in vegetarian and vegan diets include asparagus, broccoli, nuts and whole grain products.
Unfortunately, folic acid is often only present in small amounts in our foods. One food alone hardly provides a sufficient amount of this vitamin. To get to the required 400 micrograms of folic acid daily, you would need to eat more than 60 slices of whole grain bread every day.
The vitamin folic acid is also very sensitive to heat. Therefore, vegetables containing folic acid, for example, should be prepared as gently as possible.
How much folic acid do we need?
The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a daily amount of 0.4 milligrams (400 micrograms) of folic acid for normal people.
Our folic acid preparation is purely vegan.
We do not use any animal products in the production process. Our folic acid preparation therefore contains neither lactose, nor gelatine or similar animal products that can be found in other preparations on the market. By the way, this folic acid preparation is also suitable for people with lactose intolerance or allergies to animal products.
Folic acid + vitamin B12 + vitamin D and iodine - important quartet in pregnancy
Folic acid:
Pregnant women and women who want to have children should ensure an adequate supply of folic acid early on. This is because folic acid supports the development of the spinal cord, brain and central nervous system of the embryo.
Folic acid plays an important role in all cell formation and cell division processes in the human body. A deficiency of this vitamin during pregnancy can lead, among other things, to so-called neural tube defects in the child. The neural tube is a structure in embryonic development that is formed as early as the second to third week of pregnancy. The child's central and peripheral nervous system develops from this structure.
Vitamin B12:
Folic acid requires vitamin B12 to perform its functions, as the two vitamins work closely together in all areas. Like folic acid, vitamin B12 is involved in cell division and further contributes to the formation of red blood cells. It supports a normal immune system and normal energy metabolism.
Iodine:
Iodine is a vital trace mineral that the body needs to build thyroid hormones. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, women should therefore consume sufficient iodine. Iodine is also involved in energy metabolism and additionally supports the functions of the nervous system.
Vitamin D:
Adequate supply of vitamin D is very important during pregnancy. Vitamin D enables the body to utilise calcium from food and in this way strengthens bones and teeth. The immune system benefits from a high vitamin D level. Defenses and cell protection are built up and protect you from pathogens. So you stay fit and healthy before and during pregnancy.
Folic acid - vitality for young and old
Folic acid is not only indispensable for pregnant women, but it is also an important companion into old age.
Do you feel tired very quickly lately? These complaints are quite typical of anaemia, which often occurs when there is an undersupply of folic acid. This is because this vitamin is important for blood formation, as the cells involved in the bone marrow often have to divide. Other indications of a deficiency are weak nerves and an increased homocysteine content in the blood.
