Rahel Levin Varnhagen, born 250 years ago in Berlin, was an outstanding networker. As a salonnière, she regularly received both well-known and unknown guests from various walks of life. As an excessive letter writer, she reflected and commented critically and humorously on her personal present. Nevertheless, as a German Jew she experienced anti-Semitism again and again, which not least moved Hannah Arendt to write a biography of Varnhagen.
